Montserrat was the focus today - we took the train from Barcelona, then rode the cable car up to the monastery. Our first order of business was to see the Virgin of Montserrat - the famous statue. Luckily, we were able to squeeze in before they closed the gates temporarily at 10:30.
After exploring the sanctuary, we took the Sant Joan funicular up the mountain, and hiked to the peak of Sant Jeroni. I wasn't sure if the 2-hour hike would be too much for us, but we made it all the way to the top, and enjoyed a spectacular view of the entire Catalan region.
Since our ticket included both funiculars, we took full advantage and rode the Sant Cova funicular down the mountain to see the cave where the statue of Virgin Mary was found. This turned out to be pretty underwhelming.
Once we made it back to Barcelona, we headed to the brewery of Moritz to sample local beer and tapas.
Tomorrow, we'll be flying to Seville!
