Alaskan Cruise: Day 2

Overall, today was a much better experience than yesterday! After sleeping in a bit until 10:30am, we attended a free seminar about achieving a flatter stomach. It ended up being a general lecture about how to attain a healthy body - proper diet (30% protein, 30% fat, and 40% carbs), enough exercise (cardio, muscle strength, and flexibility), and detoxification/cleansing. Most of the information was fairly useful, but of course, the conclusion was to spend money to properly diagnose your body's health and then treat it with cleansing algae. Instead, we went for lunch! We chose to dine in one of the main dining halls - The Seven Seas. Since this venue did not require a cover charge, we were expecting poorer service, but we were pleasantly surprised! We enjoyed a nice meal and then headed off to a Champagne Art Auction. Having never been to an auction before, my knowledge of the whole process was derived from whatever I had watched on TV or the big screen. The auctioneer was ve...

Alaskan Cruise: Day 1 - Vancouver

This morning, we left the house right after brunch and set off for Port Vancouver at Canada Place. The weather was extremely co-operative, giving us gorgeous sunshine for the entire day. Once we arrived at the cruise terminal, we went through the typical security check - identical to the X-ray security checks at the airports. Then, we flew through customs since we carried Canadian passports - they just said hello, swiped our documents, then sent us on our way. A short wait later, and we were directed to a Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) registration desk. They checked our IDs one more time, then gave us our boarding pass/on-board credit card/room key card. And that was embarkation! The whole ordeal took less than an hour, so we had plenty of time to explore the Norwegian Sun before departing Vancouver at 5:30pm. Aside from taking pictures and sampling some of the food at the main buffet (Garden Cafe), we also participated in a mandatory fire drill and made reservations at the cruise...

Badminton

Something out of the ordinary happened last week. Amidst my routine of work, Wii Fit, sleep, anime, and the occasional social interaction outside of work/family... I was injured. Don't worry - I'm still alive and obviously not that badly wounded since I'm able to blog and do everything I would normally do. The whole thing happened last Wednesday. Usually, every Wednesday, I play badminton with a bunch of other people from work during lunch at the local community centre. This time, I was partnered with someone I wasn't really familiar with. While running backwards to get a shot, I drew my arm back in preparation for a smash, leaving the front of my body open. My partner also ran for the shot and I guess he didn't notice me. Everything happened in a split second. At the moment when my arm was drawn back, my partner went to smash the birdie and consequently smashed my face. From the pain caused by the racquet, I immediately fell to my knees and brought my hands...
