Since we redeemed miles for this trip, options for our flights were limited. This meant that for our flight home, we had to stopover in Montreal overnight, then catch an early morning flight out.
At least we got to enjoy a good part of the day relaxing in St. John's first, sleeping in then having pastries at Fixed Coffee and Baking. We strolled around Harbourside Park, gawked at the houses in Pleasantville, tried to get into Mallard House for lunch (and failed), grabbed food at St. John's Farmer's Market, then headed up to Signal Hill. The first time we went up to the Hill, we were in a rush to get to our Airbnb. This time, we could pause wherever and whenever we wanted - so we were able to sip some hot chocolate at the cafe, explore a couple of trails, and check out the Queen's Battery.
Getting to the airport was really easy, and the car rental return went smoothly. The only thing we weren't sure about was how our checked-in baggage would be handled with our overnight stopover. Turns out we had to pick it up and take it with us in Montreal because the airline won't accept responsibility for the luggage if it has to be kept overnight.
Once we landed in Montreal, we got our bags, then purchased our 1-day metro passes at the airport kiosk. The 747 bus was already at the bus stop, so we ran to catch it, and were at Lionel-Groulx station within half an hour. It was very warm on the bus (the last days of summer!), which meant that we went to the Airbnb first and changed before going out to get dinner. I didn't realize how tired I would be after a full day and a flight, so we didn't stay out too late. Just long enough to get pandan ice cream and smoked meat. Plus we won't get that much time to sleep since have the early morning flight.
Almost home!
